The GWRRA is a not-for-profit organization, meaning all of the money we collect is used exclusively to keep the association running, or is donated to charitable initiatives. Not only do we donate, but we often volunteer of participate in noble initiatives that we are passionate about, including our Pop Tab run, which donates annually collected pop tabs, the Ride for Dad to help fight Prostate Cancer, the Brampton Toy Ride, which provides toys for underprivileged children, and we are very active with Camp Bucko, an Ontario-based camp for young burn victims. NOT FOR PROFIT
Camp Bucko is an Ontario-based camp for burn victim children between the ages of 7 and 17. Bucko helps children foster self-esteem, which is particularly difficult for burn victims, making it such a wonderful cause. There is also no fee to attend Camp Bucko, which is why it is so imperative that we support it.
Some of our GWRRA members have been personally touched and impacted by this camp, making it a great cause. Through our weekly collections and annual fundraisers, we have raised tens of thousands of dollars for Camp Bucko, and given opportunities to hundreds of children.
pop tab run
Throughout the year, our members collect pop tabs from their personal homes, friends, and families, and store them until the Pop Tab Run, a day where we all hop on the bikes and ride out to donate them to Elora Legion, where Al-Can matches the donations from everyone who brings them in.
We've consistently been able to turn in 2 full trailers of pop tabs each year!
In the Tabs 4 Wheelchairs project, this scrap aluminium is melted down by Al-Can, and used in the production of wheelchairs for those with disabilities. Over 2200 wheelchairs have been given away by the Elora Legion, as well as additional funds which are put towards initiatives for people with disabilities.
